Up close
Soft green, threaded with black tourmaline.
Prehnite is translucent to transparent, soft light green with a yellowish or whitish undertone, and here it carries dark needles and patches of tourmaline. It forms in veins and cavities of mafic volcanic rock.
It has gone by many names: chrysolite of sage, Karoo, grape jade, adelite, coupholite and chiltonite.
It is found in South Africa's Karoo region, Australia's Wave Hill, China's Yunxian County, and in Germany, France, Scotland and the United States.

Prehnite has long been believed to be a stone of prophecy; it is said that indigenous people of South Africa used this "stone of dreaming" to reach other planes of existence and strengthen lucid dreaming. It is also said to be a stone of unconditional love that calms its surroundings, brings protection and peace, eases deep-rooted fears, and keeps us in harmony with nature and the elements. It is also said to connect with higher realms and help with remembering dreams.
