Dominican Larimar

Found in one mountain range on earth.

Larimar comes from a single place: the Bahoruco Mountains of Barahona, in the Dominican Republic. It is a rare blue form of the mineral pectolite, crystallized long ago inside cavities of volcanic rock.

Dominicans knew the blue stones for generations before the wider world met them in 1974. The name joins Larissa, the discoverer's daughter, with mar, the Spanish word for sea. The stone has become a treasured emblem of Dominican heritage.

Size & details

Every teardrop swirls its own way.

Each stone is polished smooth to show its own mix of sky blue, deep turquoise and white, sea-foam veining. The blue comes from copper in the stone, so the deeper the turquoise, the more copper it holds.
