3 Things You Didn’t Know About Charoite

More crystal meanings on our blog at www.crystalgemstones.net

Charoite is a transformation crystal with a chatoyance in varying colors not unlike lapis lazuli. Its variations of purple from lilac to violet tells of its ability to soothe the mind, body and spirit. Charoite is known to cleanse the aura by transmuting negative energy into positive, instilling feelings of unconditional love and rebirth. The way it heals is similar to other crystals, but nonetheless special as it opens the heart chakra to stimulate loving energy and promote feelings of being refreshed. It reduces stress and anxiety while balancing the emotional body and opens the mind to improve intuition and wisdom. Charoite is a stone of spiritual awakening that removes the illusory mask with which we present ourselves to the world and encourages us to seek and become our most authentic selves. It dissolves falsehoods and allows us to see the ugly parts of ourselves so that we may work through the shadow and overcome those obstacles which we’ve placed in our own way. Charoite is also an excellent source for etheric and psychic protection, as it provides a cloak around the auric field. This gorgeous chatoyant stone is an augmentor of energy, which makes meditation all the more powerful. Having been discovered until fairly recently, there’s not much lore surrounding this stone, but here are three things you didn’t know about Charoite.

1. Charoite Origins

Although not officially described until the late 1970’s when its beauty was finally recognized as precious, charoite was first discovered in Russia in the 1940’s. There is some debate as to whether the stone got its name from the Chara River in the Murun mountains where it was found, or from the Russian word chary, meaning “charms” or “magic. Personally, I feel like it’s both.

2. Charoite and Mental Protection

There is a belief surrounding charoite which suggests that it has the ability to protect the wearer from psychic attack and unwanted negative influence. By keeping a piece of the stone under your pillow at nighttime, it is believed that it holds the power to ward off night terrors and other forms of evil influence on the mind while you sleep.

3. Charoite and the Goddess

Depending on where you look, Sophia has many names and associations. In Greek she is Sophia; in Hebrew she is Hohkma; in Latin, Sapientia  all meaning “wisdom”. Sophia is the central pivot of creation and the representation of femenine in all things. She is wisdom incarnate and the goddess of all who are wise. Charoite’s main association in the spiritual world is Sophia, as the stone itself is said to expand one’s consciousness to the reaches of wisdom in all things.

Charoite in Feng Shui

Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese philosophy of arranging the items in one’s home so as to manipulate the flow of energy throughout spaces in a healthy and harmonious way. This art applies exceptionally well to crystal clusters and their placement in the home, as crystals also exude their own unique energies. According to the feng shui bagua map, the best place to keep your charoite crystals is in the South West or Front Left area of the home, the area responsible for knowledge and self-cultivation.
