The stone of the Amazonians
A sparkle with a story.
In ancient Greek myth, the Amazonians were honored as independent, fierce warriors. They set aventurine into their breastplates as adornments and talismans, and it was called the stone of the Amazonians until the 1800s.
Its name comes from the Italian word ventura, “by chance”, after a jewelry maker’s happy mistake: metal filings dropped into a vat of melting glass cooled into glass full of iridescent sparkles. The stone, discovered in the 18th century, was named for how much it looked like that accidental sparkling glass.
