WHAT IS GREEN FLUORITE? Green fluorite is a mineral that comes in many shades of green from lime through to deep emerald green. This gemstone belongs to the halide minerals family, formed of calcium fluoride. It naturally crystalizes in an isometric cubic pattern. Octahedral and even more complex forms also naturally occur in fluorite. Fluorite is popular with collectors and not only comes in green but also in a rainbow of colors.
WHY IT'S AWESOME? Fluorite goes back to ancient Egypt and China where it was used as an ornamental stone in carving statues, amulets and talismans. The largest cube ever found weighed about 16 tons and 2.12 meters in size. (7.22 feet) A full grown elephant can weight up to 7 tons, so you get an idea of just how large that specimen was.
